What Are Muscovy Ducks?

It's amazing how true it is that we learn something new everyday! This brings to mind something newly learned by yours truly this past summer. While feeding one of the ducks by the lake shore out in the backyard, I looked down a bit to my right and saw what appeared to be a rooster or maybe a chicken or well, who knows what? As this thing, yes, from that distance, "thing" moved closer, it was time to take out the smart phone as I was at a lack for brains in identifying this creature. After uttering a brief description of the animal Into the phone, it turned out to be another kind of duck, a Muscovy duck! Yes, Muscovy. What a unique name for a duck you might agree.
This Muscovy duck happened to be accompanied by a couple of other ducks with similar appearance. As they got closer it was plain to see that they were a friendly brood indeed. They most eagerly moved in position to get some of the duck chow that was being tossed about to the aforementioned duck and kept wanting more and more and more and well you get the idea. They had healthy appetites for sure!
Since that brief encounter with the Muscovy ducks, it was discovered that they've decided to stick around and take residence at a nearby pond. Some months thereafter they even had a litter, if that's what you'd call it, of about nine babies. In fact, nine babies just as friendly as their parents. Think a serving of Sardines might be in the offering soon. That is if it's approved by the old smart phone, of course!
You know, why don't you stick around and take a look at a lovely video shared by CBS Sunday Morning that features a family of Muscovy ducks doing what they love to do in life!
